New Notification Types
The purpose of the Electronic Notification for Evidence of Insurance is to
provide an electronic means for Insurers to interface with the BMV to notify
the BMV when coverage now exists for a motor vehicle registered in Maine.
The law requires that there be a means of electronically notifying the
Secretary of State with regards to providing Evidence of Insurance coverage.
The BMV will be accepting Evidence of
Insurance records from all Insurers who have customers in Maine starting January
1, 2007. There are two
ways an Insurer can submit these new records to the BMV. The 9060 interface or a web service.
The same rules apply as to which service an Insurer can use. Any company can
develop for and certify to use the 9060 interface but those with >500
vehicles insured in Maine are required to use it.
InforME is developing the web site with a go live date scheduled for January 1, 2007.
This site will be account driven and available to all existing accounts held with
InforME.
We expect to begin testing with a few pilot companies in mid September 2006. BMV will contact
some companies to work with InforME as pilot testers. Those companies can contact InforME as we will
be supporting testing and providing certification.
Certification
Certification is required of all companies submitting through the 9060
interface. Please have your development teams refer to the specification document for record layout.
Generally speaking, the record type value is new and the general format is similar to the current Cancellation
Notice records. Files submitted for certification will contain a few
records of both types, Cancellation and Evidence of Insurance.
InforME will post notice to this web page when certification files are being
openly accepted.
We are accepting test files for evidence of insurance now. Contact us with any
questions you may have at insurancesupport@informe.org or call 207 - 621
2600 e.35.
9060 Testing
For those Insurers currently submitting cancellation notices through the 9060 interface,
InforME will set up test directories
in your production accounts. These will be /xin and /xout. All files submitted for certification will be placed
in /xin. Test error files will be place in /xout.
To prevent inadvertant submittal and processing of test files
placed in your production directories, all test files will be named using current naming convention and prepending with
'x', (e.g. x9060i200602021222345555500000001.txt). File extentions that you currently use will not change.
Return Error Codes
Cannot be a rescind - error 71
Expiration must be in the future - error 77
Effective must be in the past - error 77
Vin and registration must be on file, with the correct owner - errors 72 to 76.
Questions regarding the electronic insurance interface should be directed
to InforME at insurancesupport@informe.org
or 207-621-2600 x35.
